Kirk Maltby

Canadian professional hockey player Kirk Maltby currently plays for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League.

Prior to his NHL career Maltby played for the Owen Sound Platers of the Ontario Hockey League for three seasons starting in 1989. He was drafted 65th overall in the 1992 NHL draft by the Edmonton Oilers. He was immediately placed with the Oilers' American Hockey League minor league affiliate, the Cape Breton Oilers, for his first season. Maltby made his NHL debut in 1993, playing 68 games his rookie season. He saw a long and successful career as a member of the Red Wings, including playing on the "Grind Line" with fellow Wings Kris Draper and Darren McCarty. The Wings won back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in 1997 and 1998. After playing his 1,000th NHL game in February 2009, Maltby was limited to just 52 of 82 games during the 2009-10 regular season, adding four goals and two assists. He spent much of the time late in the season rehabbing from shoulder surgery.
