History
Kings Island opened in 1972. It served as a replacement for the Coney Island amusement park, which started in the 1870's, because of frequent flooding from the Ohio River. Many of the rides from Coney Island park were relocated to the new Kings Island location.http://www.visitkingsisland.com/mediakit/history.htmlKings Island's main attraction at the time of opening was the twin-tracked Racer roller coaster, which was credited with starting the second age of roller coasters. On track of the Racer was turned backwards in 1982 to create the rowld's first full-length backwards-traveling wooden roller coaster. This was switched back to forward facing in 2007.http://www.visitkingsisland.com/mediakit/history.html
