Pilot Dies, Passenger Lands Plane
On April 13, 2009, a pilot flying a King Air, destined for Jackson, Mississippi, died after taking off. The plane, which took off from Naples, Florida, was on autopilot at the time the pilot died. As the plane approached 10,000 feet, a passenger took over the controls and safely landed the plane at the Southwest Florida International Air Port, in Fort Myers. The passenger, who is licensed to fly single-engine planes, had never flown a large aircraft like a King Air. The passenger called a friend in Connecticut who helped guide him through the steps in order to land the plane.USAToday.com: Passenger lands plane in Fla. after pilot dies (April 13, 2009)
