Finnish professional hockey player Kimmo Timonen currently plays for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.
Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1993, Timonen chose to stay in his home country to further develop his skills and join Team Finland at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, where they won the bronze medal.
Shortly after the 1998 Olympics, Timonen was traded to the Nashville Predators, with whom he played 50 games during the 1998-1999 season. The next year he was a full-time member of the Predators' lineup and developed into an offensively gifted defenseman over the next few seasons. He was named the captain of his team at the beginning of the 2006-2007 season, which would prove to be his last with the club.
Timonen, along with teammate Scott Hartnell was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers during the summer of 2007. Shortly thereafter, Timonen signed a six-year contract with the Flyers worth $37.8 million. He has remained with the team since the 2007-08 season, helping them to their first Stanley Cup Final in 2010.http://flyers.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8459670
