Kim Novak

American film star Kim Novak made a name for herself in Hollywood in the 1950s. Her highest-profile role came in 1958 when she was cast by iconic director Alfred Hitchcock as Jimmy Stewart's love interest in Vertigo, which many believe was Hitchcock's crowning achievement.

The New Marilyn?

For much of her career, Novak fought the typecasting that her beauty inspired. Columbia Pictures decided very early on to groom her as their own version of Marilyn Monroe, which made her wary of accepting roles that might pigeon-hole her as simply a sex symbol. Novak reportedly turned down the female leads in Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Hustler, among other notable films.
