Mission 10: Visari Palace
- YouTube: Killzone 2 Walkthrough - Visari Palace Pt 1 (Time: 9:44)
- You're following alpha again. Keep with them as they approach the bridge, then take a right and go down the ramp to the real fight. There are all kinds of Helghast troops and two mounted machine guns to contend with.
- Grab some cover and start thinning the ranks of the Helghast. You can't move up until the way is a little clearer. Dealing with those MGs will help, but they're hard to hit from here.
- Instead, move to the left side of the battle. Kill all the Helghast on your level of the field and head for the stairs on the left when you're clear. This lets you get up alongside the gunners and the Helghast on the second level.
- It's not going to be that fast. You'll spend a lot of time reviving Natko and Rico, but just take your time and kill all the troops you can when you have the opportunity. As soon as you feel like you won't get shot in the back if you head up, move all the way to the left and break for the stairs. You should be able to avoid MG fire by stopping behind various bits of cover.
- Symbol! When you finish this fight, stand facing the former enemy position and turn right. Look at the pointy building there and you'll see a Helghast symbol sort of in the center of it, way up high.
- Head through the door. You'll follow a hallway until some Helghast stop you. Kill them and get to cover, as there's a tank behind them supporting the area.
- Move up from position to position, then sprint out to the left, toward the stairs. You'll find a rocket launcher there. When you've got it, find a good position to hide on the ground floor (don't go up the stairs yet).
- Put two rockets in the tank to destroy it.
- Now you have to destroy the four towers surrounding the Arc tower. Do so by setting demo charges in each building. Start with the one forward and to the left of your position, up the stairs next to the gun rack.
- The best way to assault these towers is from the inside. Each has an MG in the window, but they can't hit you as you get close. Get on the entrance staircase and shoot the Helghast as they try to engage you, or toss a grenade up and sort out the mess after the boom.
- Take the first tower and set the charge. Exit, blow the building (make sure you're clear of the explosion) and follow the walkway forward so that you're engaging the next tower, which would have been forward and right of where you started. We're moving clockwise.
- Watch out for Helghast reinforcements. When you blow a tower, troops will run down into the center of the complex to engage you. These are sometimes the guys from the nearby towers, sometimes not.
- Among these reinforcements will be two heavies. You'll face them one at a time, but be sure to look for them after each tower goes.
- Repeat the process moving clockwise. The second tower is to the right, near the rock wall. Kill the troops inside, blow the tower.
- Look for another heavy, then proceed to the first tower that's near the cliffside. This one is more difficult to approach because the troops are waiting for you and the MG has a better firing solution on you pretty much for your whole approach.
- Kill the troops outside from safe cover. When the way is clear, your health is full and you know the path, sprint to the doorway to avoid the MG. Toss in a grenade or just run up and finish the last Helghast, but don't destroy the tower just yet because...
- Symbol! Stand inside this tower and look out at the central Arc tower. There's a protrusion to the left just at eye level. On the left face of that protrusion, facing away from you, is the Helghast symbol.
- Intel! While you're tying up loose ends and now that the Helghast presence is vastly reduced, take care of this as well. Take the catwalks to the area surroundng the center tower. Follow it along the outside until you see a staircase leading down inside. This should be on the on the right side of the tower if you're facing the cliff wall at the far end of the battlefield. Descend these stairs and you'll find an Intel case on a crate, as well as some ammo.
- YouTube: Killzone 2 Walkthrough - Visari Palace Pt 2 (Time: 9:20)
- Now blow the third tower. Head down and approach the fourth. You may have a heavy to deal with. The fourth tower is just like the third, in that it's harder to get to and you'll take more fire on your way over. Use the same tactics.
- When you destroy the final tower, the way to the palace is open at that cliff wall at the other end of the compound. There will also be Helghast reinforcements there. Move up and take cover.
- Run along the walkway to get alongside the Helghast soldiers. You should be able to walk right up and waste them with LMG fire. Be careful on your approach, then hop in the elevator with Rico on the right side.
- Sprint from the top of the elevator along the walkway to the building to avoid ATAC fire and get ready for another huge firefight. You need to secure the palace courtyard, but there are troops, MGs and ATACs all over the place.
- Symbol! When you enter the first building in the courtyard, look on the left (back) wall for a symbol.
- Start pushing up along this left-side walkway ahead of you outside the building. Shoot Helghast, move to a new cover position, and repeat. You'll have an MG gunner up ahead and dug-in troops all over the area.
- High ground works pretty well if you can take and keep it. Sit tight and try to clear the entire forward position before advancing. Keep knocking down Helghast until you can advance to the highest point, the raised tower just to the right of this walkway.
- Get up there and grab cover. There's a rocket launcher nearby -- use it to take down the two MG nests in the lower yard just ahead of you. Then you can take your time killing all the infantry in the area.
- The barricaded position ahead is swarming with Helghast, so much so that pushing down straight through the center probably won't work. Instead, head down to the right and get to the lowest area possible. After a little searching, you should be able to find a tunnel that will lead from one end of the courtyard to the other.
- Carefully exit the tunnel at the far end. You're coming up right beneath the barricade, so there are Helghast all around. However, your position in the tunnel is pretty good and as soon as you start killing troops there, ISA attackers from behind you will rally on your position and help push the enemy back.
- When the way is clear, move forward and get some more cover. You can check those two MG bunkers for ammo and weapons.
- Intel! Inside the left MG bunker, on the table.
- Get cover on the next barrier and sit tight. After a few seconds, an ATAC will swoop down and start unloading on you. It won't dodge as much as the last time you fought one, however. Hit it with your LMG or whatever you're carrying to put it down.
- You've got another entrenched Helghast position to get around. Move forward some behind cover, then sprint to the left and try to flank around the side. On the left, you'll be able to fight smaller groups of Helghast without taking fire from the center section at the same time.
- First, concentrate fire on the MG nest in the tower to the top left. With that down, you just keep blasting away at the troops as they flood forward and try to maintain your forward momentum. Just keep hammering away at the Helghast and finding new places to take cover.
- YouTube: Killzone 2 Walkthrough - Visari Palace Pt 3 (Time: 9:22)
- Cut back to the middle from the flank and keep it up. Eventually you'll thin the Helghast ranks enough to move forward to the doors.
- Symbol! When the Helghast are eliminated and before going into the palace, face the palace door and go to the left side, where columns make up one wall of the hallway. Step behind the columns, turn to face back outward toward where you just assaulted, and turn left. You'll find the symbol on the back of one of the columns.
- Continue through the antechamber and up the stairs. You'll find fresh weapons as you make your way into the great hall, to a meeting with Radec and his personal guard.
- Get to cover immediately. The center of the room affords a decent place, but really anywhere will do. You just need to be in a good position to dodge grenades, kill anyone who makes it behind you, and continue to shoot Helghast.
- Radec's fighters come in waves. The first wave consists entirely of regular infantry, equipped with assault rifles and grenades. They'll take up defensive positions ahead of you and keep jumping out and taking shots. Kill them as they present the opportunity.
- There are quite a lot of guys in this fight, in addition to Radec himself. He's the one with the LMG way in the back of the room, behind the railing. Radec will continually move from place to place to take up firing positions on you. If you put a few rounds into him, he'll go invisible and leave you alone for a few seconds while he finds a new place to hide.
- Keep killing infantry until you hear Radec give the order to charge (getting "nose to nose with them"). That's your cue to grab ammo and fall back to the doors you entered through. Radec is dispatching SMG troops, which won't take defensive positions and will instead flank you while you're reloading and kill you.
- From the cover position at the doorway, however, you have a bottleneck through which all enemies must pass, and it makes it much easier to kill them. You'll never have SMG troops getting your side when you're not looking (because, let's face it, Rico is a poor teammate).
- You should have no trouble fighting through the SMG troops. Radec sends flamethrower troops at you next, which will be repelling down from the back of the room behind you. These will couple with some SMG and infantry troops sent from the other end of the room.
- If you're in the doorway, you're already doing fine. The flamethrowers have a short range and can be troublesome, but the doorway still forces them to show themselves to you. They can't get behind you, which is their biggest advantage. The other big advantage is that most enemies will engage Rico first instead of you, giving you time to hose them down.
- After these three waves, the door to the balcony level will open on the left side of the room. Rico orders you to head up there and take the high ground. Don't just do it right away, however, as there are more infantry reinforcements coming and you'll need to thin them out before proceeding upstairs.
- Keep hammering away from your favorite cover position until you can sprint for the stairs without dying. You'll probably want to pop Radec right before you do so that he won't bother you with his superior firepower. Then run for the door and get upstairs to fresh weapons.
- There's a sniper rifle and grenade launcher at each of the racks along the back wall on the balcony. You can use either or neither, depending on your preference -- in the end, you're still just shooting down Helghast troops.
- It's recommended you opt for the grenade launcher, because it's the most effective way to clear out enemy troops quickly, or troops who have taken up defensive positions. There is ammo at either gun rack for it, amounting to 24 shots. You'll need them, so save them.
- Start by using your magnum to clear out whatever enemies you can. Reinforcements will sweep forward and take up defensive positions beneath you at first.
- YouTube: Killzone 2 Walkthrough - Visari Palace Pt 4 (Time: 9:29)
- When you've killed a fair amount of those guys, a second wave will rush forward, lay down suppressing fire, and make for the open doorways up to the balcony. These guys are your biggest problem to this point and will flank and kill you.
- To combat it, try to hit them with a launcher grenade as they approach the door. That should thin out their numbers, and maybe even save you from having to fight them from two sides.
- Now, from behind cover, try to put grenades in the paths of the enemies rush toward you, or run toward them and meet them before they have a chance to really hurt you. If you're fast, you should be able to kill them and get back to your cover position.
- Note: Be aware that on harder difficulties, Rico is completely useless. You can't count on him to do anything more than get killed by the attacking troops.
- After the first wave of attackers, which is infantrymen, you'll face another wave, consisting of SMG troops. These are even more dangerous than the first group. Be liberal with your grenades and try to kill them fast. You probably won't have the opportunity to kill one group before it makes it upstairs.
- If you can manage to get rid of the SMG troops, you'll need to be quick on your feet. Radec will dispatch RPG troops to the corners of the second floor on his end. They'll start putting rockets into the wall right behind the center cover position almost immediately, and if you don't realize what's happening, you'll die from it. Fast.
- Run to the corner, heal up, and then run to the barricade in the center of one of the side walkways. From here, you should be able to put fire on the closest RPG teams and take them out, without worrying about fire from the other side. Just dodge the rockets.
- When you've cleared one side, run to the other and do the same. Be careful of the few straggling infantry troops on the ground floor, and possibly one or two making it up to the balcony. Drop the last RPG teams and the final infantry and you'll get a cutscene.
- After the Intruder crashes, you can move to the right side walkway and get to the side where Radec is located. You'll have a few more RPG troops to finish up. When that happens, Radec will take you on himself.
Final Boss: Radec
- Radec is a cheap fighter. He uses that electric invisibility/teleport aparatus to basically get behind you continually. Once there, he'll go for a knife in the back, which kills you instantly.
- Therefore, whenever you hear the noise of Radec using his electric teleporter, spin around and check your back. Shoot Radec as he charges toward you to stop him from stabbing you, and usually cause him to use the teleporter again.
- If Radec gets far enough away, he'll unload on you with his SMG. This isn't too much of a problem unless you can't find someplace to hide. Shoot at him the best you can and he should teleport again.
- Occasionally you'll lose track of Radec. If that happens, check the bigger ground floor arena, where he's standing, shooting at you. If you get him down there, he'll be more apt to take cover and use his gun, as well as dodge and roll when you shoot at him.
- Keep on punishing Radec and he'll return to his place on the top balcony. Sprint up to the right door and get up there with him to finish him off.
- After a few more shots or a grenade or two, Radec will hit the ground for good.
- Proceed through the hallway to finish the game.
- Trophy Alert! If you beat Radec in less than 20 minutes, you'll receive the Demonslayer trophy.
