Mission 7: Tharsis Refinery

- Dropping down onto the train, you lose your primary weapon and are stuck with your magnum for a few moments. Don't worry -- you don't actually need it.
- Proceed forward, trying to stay to the sides to avoid being seen. It's easier if you can sneak up on the lightly armored Helghast SMG troops at the front of this car.
- Keep to the left side of the train to find a weapons rack that holds a boltgun. That should hold you until you find something better or that you like more.
- Clear the two or three soldiers at the end of the car and head inside. There are two levels here, but the Helghast troops in this car are on the bottom. The catwalks above afford a fairly decent position to fight them from.
- You'll face three or four Helghast in this car, mostly the light-armored SMG troops. Kill them fast so they don't flank you. Then continue through the car and back outside.
- Up ahead are several tanks. One to the right has a red light on it. When you get to it, hit Circle so you can climb up and use the turret, as Rico instructs. You'll have waves of Helghast to kill soon.
- The first group will swarm forward to get cut down by your fire. Just about everything on that side of the car explodes, from the crates holding back red canisters (look for the ones that are man-sized and thin) to the big boxes with the blue weak spots.
- Hop down when the onslaught ends. You'll need to move forward to trigger the next wave, which likely means engaging them with your rifle. Take cover behind the first set of crates just ahead.
- After you've dealt with maybe six more Helghast light troopers and a few regular infantry, you can move on to the next car. Here you'll face a tank, as well as a few waves of infantry.
- Kill the soldiers first, making sure you're out of the tank's line of sight. When you're clear, run to the center of the car behind the crates there, where you'll find a weapons rack. On it are some RPGs.
- Grab a rocket launcher and unload on the tank. It'll take roughly four rockets to bring it down. Try to do it quickly, as infantry will come to the armor's aid.
- Note: Be aware that the tank carries rockets of its own and some cover positions aren't safe.
- There really isn't a lot of strategy to taking down the tank. Once you have, move forward to get a better cover position and take on the additional waves of infantry. The last wave will include an RPG team stationed on the top floor of the next car, shooting at you from the left side.
- Knock down all the SMG troops, making sure to keep moving if a rocket comes your way. The cover is pretty good in this area so you shouldn't have much issue. After that's done, move up to kill the RPG trooper if you don't have the range from way back by the tank wreckage.
- These guys are your last resistance. Push forward when they're dead and you'll get a short cutscene as the train stops once you reach the engine. As soon as you get control back, get down and out of sight.

- There are two Helghast troops ahead who haven't seen you yet. Try to get close and take them out.
- When they're dead, Rico will prompt you to boost him over a fence. Go to him and hit Circle.
- Proceed toward where you killed those soldiers. A few more have shown up from a nearby door that you'll have to kill.
- Symbol! Your first symbol is on the side of the train just ahead of here. Look to the right and you'll see it pretty easily.
- Make for the door on the left. After a few steps down the hall, you'll fall into the refinery below. Kill the spider and walk toward the electrified floor ahead. See the power cell on the wall to the left? Shoot it to clear the way.
- Down the hall and left is an open area with a fresh batch of Helghast light infantry. Use the corner for cover and shoot at the explosive barrels that are pretty much everywhere.
- You're heading to that lift in the center of the room -- the one blocked off by electrified floor panels. The power cell to disable them is around the corner to the right from the door, on the wall.
- Take the lift down and disembark. You'll get something of a boss fight as soon as you do.
Boss Fight: ArcTrooper
- This guy isn't much of a boss, but if you don't know what you're doing and if you aren't fast, he'll mince you up quickly.
- You're facing a soldier that's not much different than a standard heavy trooper, except he moves faster and carries a cannon that spits electricity. It'll fry you quickly, so keep from letting him get a bead on you by moving behind the crates that surround the area.
- Look above the ArcTrooper -- there's a conveyor belt there that's carrying equipment just over his head. Shot any of those items and they'll fall and explode, scrambling the trooper's suit and causing him to be vulnerable.
- When the ArcTrooper is disabled by said explosion, sprint past him and turn toward his back. You'll see the familiar red tanks of a heavy trooper on his back. Shoot these to deal the trooper damage.
- It'll probably take three drops from the conveyor belt to give you enough access to the ArcTrooper's tanks to destroy him. Be sure to stay back from the explosion when he dies, as this can be deadly to you, too.
- Trophy Alert! Kill the ArcTrooper in under a minute and a half and you'll received the ElementalSlayer trophy. It should be a breeze.
Tharsis Refinery, continued

- Grab some ammo and make for the ladder to the left of where the ArcTrooper dropped. Climb up and hit the button at the top. That opens the path forward, but also notifies a mess of Helghast that you're ready for them.
- Try to take cover in the control tower and avoid bullets coming from below and across from you. Pick your shots and clear the way. The lightly armored infantry troops will go down quickly.
- Climb back down, head through the door, and take the ladder there. One more and you'll get up to where you can jump into one of the conveyor buckets.
- Note: Along the way up to the conveyor belt, you'll find a weapon rack that houses an electricity cannon. Grab it -- it has infinite charge and does pretty much all the aiming for you. Plus it shoots lightning and looks cool.
- Jump in the bucket and you'll soon be moved past Helghast security patrols. Don't bother to hide, because they'll see you eventually. Just blast them.
- After cooking a fair handful of Helghast, you'll be moved toward an electrical field. You can't go through, so blast the energy cell on the wall and the bucket will drop you.
- Symbol! Face toward where the electrical field was, then look left for a small alcove with the symbol on the back wall.
- Go back the way you came along the right wall and follow the path around there. You'll get inside the building, and face Helghast through the door to the left. The electricity gun will annihilate them.
- Intel! On the table about halfway through the room, on the right, is a case.
- Keep pushing forward. You'll descend some and come out into a big open area. Watch out for sentry bots -- first one, then two more. The electricity gun scraps them like everything else.
- Follow the path forward and you'll start dealing with more sentry bots. Move up slowly behind cover and take them down one at a time from safety. Just do your best to keep track of their ATAC-like movements.
- Keep moving forward. You'll continue to face sentry bots, but you'll hear them coming and shouldn't have too much difficulty. At the end of the line is a lift. When you're at the top, continue to follow the path to meet up with Rico.
- Intel! The leftmost table in the room with Rico holds the mission's last Intel case.
- Follow Rico outside and stick with him. Before long you'll come on alpha squad being held by Radec and his men.
- When the shooting starts, immediately head forward and take a right to get on the ramp. This is where you're headed. You need to clear the way and keep moving up to the lift control.
- Sentry bots will periodically appear from the hole in the ground floor. Keep cover between you and them and ice them with the electricity gun.
- In fact, hopefully you brought the electricity cannon, because it makes you a death merchant in this level. You only have to worry about being killed by enemies you can shoot you from outside your lightning bolt range. Otherwise, everything else will fall before you as you continue up the ramp. Start with the four Helghast waiting just above you.
- Symbol! The third symbol is somewhere in this room. You'll get it almost automatically as soon as you open fire on the first two sentry bots that enter the room with your electricity gun. The arcing current finds the symbol for you and destroys it.
- An LMG gunner is stationed above you as well, once you've killed the closer Helghast troops, Hit him around, through, or over the cover he's using -- this gun apparently can do that.
- Keep marching forward. You'll be surprised by how far away the electricity cannon can be useful, so just aim and fire as you go. Clear the level, find the staircases, and keep moving up.
- Upstairs, bounce from cover to cover as you eliminate the LMG infantry here. Watch for sentry bots and take a breather whenever you need it. Then just keep following your nav points.
- You'll get to the button before long. Hit it, then Natko will open the door forward. Follow alpha squad out to the landing zone and start clearing out the Helghast.
- It shouldn't be hard to clear the path. Keep opening up with lightning on anything that moves. Get close to the cover so that you're protected from shooters on the walkways ahead and to the right. It's easy to get killed by those guys when you're distracted by something else.
- As you continue to shoot the Helghast swarming in, Evelyn and Garza will make their way outside. You'll need to follow Evelyn into the comms tower area next, which is that locked door to the left of the area. Stick to your cover until the door's open, then get moving.
- Climb the tower quickly. At the top you'll find a sniper rifle that you can use to keep knocking down Helghast until an Intruder arrives to get you out of there. There's no real danger, so pick your targets as you deem necessary.
- When your ride arrives, head downstairs and back out to the LZ to end the mission.
