Mission 5: Salamun Bridge
- YouTube: Killzone 2 Walkthrough - Salamun Bridge Part 1 (Time: 8:47)
- You're starting in a massive firefight that requires you to continually push forward against waves of Helghast troops in defensive positions. In addition, many of the troops carry grenade launchers that fire bouncing explosives in your direction.
- Basically, keep running forward. Clear a position, make a hole for yourself, then run to the next batch of cover. Repeat this basic strategy as you go.
- The Helghast positions are numerous and deeply dug, so be careful as you move that you're in a good place to avoid grenades and gunfire. As you approach the middle of the area, you'll see two MGs mounted on either side of the bridge ahead.
- About here you should be coming up beside two vans. Go left around the side of one and take cover there. This is the best path forward toward the MG nests.
- Keep pushing forward when the way is clear and use either a grenade launcher or an assault rifle to take out the MG gunners. With them down, you'll get a new assignment -- go under the bridge and find a way to lower it again.
- The ramp down is on your left. Take it, then take cover as you head toward the other ISA troops, who are engaging Helghast reinforcements.
- Move through the center of the area behind the concrete barriers until you get to the last one. Then thin out the Helghast position to the left.
- Now sprint straight left from the barrier to the low tin fence there, make a hard right and go for the man-size chunk of metal at the barricade near the Helghast position. You should be to the left of the AA gun.
- Heal up and start leaning out and finishing off the local Helghast. After a moment, you should be able to make your way up to the AA gun just ahead. There are grenades and ammo to the left on the walkway below the gun.

- Run up to the gun and get behind it. Board it with Circle, then turn and face the other side of the shanty town at a 135-angle from the way it was just pointed. You'll be basically unloading on Helghast as they run toward you. Be aware of RPG teams that will appear on the right side and at a slightly higher elevation than the rest of the enemies.
- Clear out the Helghast and you'll be ready to move forward. Follow the path until you come to a door. Inside you'll find stairs that lead all the way up to a valve the lowers the bridge.
- Don't go straight for the valve. Instead, Take cover at the windows to the side and shoot out at the SMG-wielding light troopers out there. They'll take potshots at you while you're working with the valve.
- When you've cleared things up enough to start working, lower the bridge into place. That allows the convoy to push over and clear the immediate area, as well as lets Garza come open the door for you. Ammo up and head out.
- Take cover behind the tank and shoot along its right side at the many, many SMG troops you'll have to deal with. Try to take them out fast so they can't get along side you and take you out with their faster-firing guns.
- After a few waves of these guys, the area ahead will be noticeably clearer. Sprint forward and take cover and start knocking down the RPG troops in the towers at the back and the regular infantry behind sandbags to the left. You'll also have an MG gunner in the center on the back wall.
- There are plenty of sniper rifles and rocket launchers lying around, so make liberal use of them. When all the enemies are dead, rendezvous with alpha squad near the buggies in front of the gates. Next you'll head to the academy.
- Symbol! When you arrive, look high above the academy doorway for a Helghast symbol.
- Head in with alpha squad. You can grab fresh weapons from the several racks around here.
- Symbol! Turn around as you enter the first door and look straight up. Right in the same place as it was on the outside, a second Helghast symbol hangs from the wall.
- Intel! Instead of going straight into the main hall, hang a right before the doorway in this room. You'll go all the way around the side of the room toward the door you just entered. When you reach the wall, do a 180 to find an Intel case behind a pillar.
- The next room is a giant ambush. There are a lot of troops here, but the rocket teams are easily the worst, and most deadly. You're better off taking the stairs up to one of the sides and clearing out the second floor, so do that before entering the room through the main door.
- Your best bet is to stand in the doorway and shoot anything you can hit from here. When the enemies on this side are all dead, try heading to the staircase on the other side and killing anything that's over there. Stop at the main door and shoot anyone on the ground floor as well. Just dodge the rockets!
- You'll knock down your objective when you've killed all the hostiles. You can then grab ammo and advance through the room.
- Symbol! The last Helghast symbol is on the wall over the door to Radec's office, way up high like the first two. When you've got it, enter the office after your squadmates open the door.
- Intel! The last Intel case is right on Radec's desk.
- You'll get a cutscene after a few moments in the office, and then you'll be thrown into your first real boss fight against an ATAC.
Boss Fight: ATAC
- YouTube: Killzone 2 Walkthrough - Salamun Bridge Part 3 (Time: 7:04)
- You're about to get frustrated. The ATAC spends the entire fight wheeling around, trying to hit you from one of three different sides. You have only that big pillar between you and speedy annihilation.
- First, step to the left and pick up the rocket launcher. You'll need it in a moment. Then switch to your magnum while keeping the pillar between you and the ATAC.
- TIP: Surround sound, and especially headphones, work wonders in this battle if you have access to them. It's easy to lose track of the ATAC, but if you can hear where it is, you can avoid it that much better.
- Stick and move is the name of the game. You need to keep from getting shot by the ATAC while you fight it, which is no easy feat. Using the magnum, you need to shoot one of the electrical cells on either side of the roof when the ATAC nears one of them. That'll short out the monster and allow you time to hit it with a rocket.
- You can shoot either cell on each side of the map to short out that entire side. Meaning if the ATAC is in the corner of the area but you shoot the cell closest to the wall, you'll still knock it out. Try to do just that, keeping the pillar between you and the ATAC while you shoot the cell you can see clearly.
- Once you've zapped the ATAC, line up a shot with the rocket launcher and hit it. Try to get two before the ATAC recovers and dodges you.
- Reload both guns and get behind the pillar with it protecting you from straight up the middle. Get ready, as the ATAC will recover, get to the center of the battle, and fire rockets at you as it strafes to one side. You'll need to pivot around the pillar to take as little damage as possible.
- You'll probably get pretty hurt. Try to keep in mind where the ATAC is despite the rockets. You need to be able to avoid its machine gun fire now more than ever, especially because the dust kicked up by the rockets can be blinding.
- The key here is to knock out the electrical coil as quickly as possible at this point. If the ATAC gets anywhere near one, you need to be ready to short it. This will minimize the number of rocket strikes you have to deal with and stop the thing from moving all around you, disorienting and ultimately killing you.
- Hit it again with both barrels. If you need more rockets, there's an additional launcher on the right side of the area if you're standing with your back to the door. Reload again and get ready for one more volley.
- The ATAC will respond the same way it did before, using rockets and trying to kill you outright or blind you so that it can get around the side of you. Stick close to the pillar after the rockets fall and try to keep from getting shot.
- At the next available opportunity, hit the electrical coil, short out the ATAC, and blast it with the rockets. Both should be enough (or possibly more than enough) to put it down for good. You'll also end the mission by ending the ATAC.
- Alternatively, you can take a much cheaper, much easier route to winning this battle. At the outset, run down one of the side staircases down to the roof area where the electrical coils are, then spin back toward the platform you just left. You'll find a hallway that extends beneath the platform. There's also another rocket launcher there.
- You'll need to move quickly to avoid being electrocuted by the rooftop.
- This method leaves you extremely well covered. The ATAC will move toward your position to get a bead on you, making it easy to pull it to where you want it, zap it, and hit it with your rockets. However, this method makes the battle so easy that it loses all challenge.
- Trophy Alert! Defeat the ATAC in less than a minute and a half to earn the secret Dragonslayer Trophy. It's recommended you try that on an easier difficulty than Veteran, however. The hallway method described above is ideal for this trophy as well.
