  • Killzone 2's multiplayer mode is reminiscent of a number of other first-person shooters, like Modern Warfare and Team Fortress 2, along with a few unique features of its own. Multiplayer matches in Killzone 2 can feature multiple gametypes over the course of a single game, from Deathmatch-type scenarios to control point modes. As players compete in multiplayer, they gain experience and unlock new features like custom weapon loadouts, clans and character classes. Classes can then be upgraded with ribbons and badges.

    Unlike other shooters, where multiplayer gametypes are separate, Killzone 2 does not have a single type of match, but rather rotates between what it calls "missions" over the course of a single match. One mission may resemble a Team Deathmatch gametype where you must kill a certain amount of the opposing team. When that mission has been won, the match will switch to a different mode. The first team to win five missions wins the entire match.

    As you play and win in more matches, you will gain more points in Killzone 2. Points can be used to increase your rank, which will then unlock more options, like different types of guns, the ability to form squads and more. At a certain point, you will unlock the ability to choose a class. Classes have special abilities, like the Medic, who can revive fallen soldiers, or the Engineer, who can build automatic sentry guns. As you play your class and accomplish certain tasks, you'll start to unlock ribbons, which in turn unlock badges, which grant bonuses. The Medic gains the ability to throw health packs to heal allies in battle and more. Badges can be combined in different ways as you progress to create a completely customizable character.
