Kill Bill Films

-->
  • Kill Bill is an epic-length revenge drama divided into five chapters and two movies, known as "Volume 1" and "Volume 2." Originally planned as one film it was broken up into two due to a running time of approximately four hours. Taken together, Kill Bill is the fourth film by writer-director Quentin Tarantino.

    A condensed version of Kill Bill, retelling some of the film's major sequences in 1 minute using a single take on an athletic field, appeared on YouTube in March of 2009. The same user, Whycantihavespaces, had previously uploaded a similar retelling of the film Forrest Gump.

  • Plot

    As with other Tarantino films, the story of Kill Bill unfolds non-chronologically, jumping forward and backward in time to tell different parts of the story. What eventually emerges is the story of a former assassin, known at various points as Beatrix Kiddo, Black Mamba or The Bride (played by Thurman) seeking revenge against her former colleagues, who attempted to kill her on her wedding day. As she works her way down her list of targets, she gets closer and closer to her titular task of exterminating the head of the assassin squad, and her former lover, Bill (played by Carradine).
  • Influences:

    Tarantino draws on several genres of film for his inspiration for Kill Bill, such as spaghetti westerns, blaxploitation and kung fu movies of the 60s and 70s. The film includes several direct quotes or visual references to older movies, such as Shogun Assassin and The Tattooed Life.

    "Funny, you like samurai swords... I like baseball." - Hattori Hanzo
