Kid Nation

Kid Nation was a CBS reality program which separated 40 children, aged 8 to 15, from their parents and allowed them to create their own society with minimal adult supervision. The show was filmed on location at the Bonanza Creek, eight miles south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The show began filming in April 2007 and was broadcast in September of that year.

Each child received $5,000 for their involvement, and Gold Stars, worth $20,000 to $50,000, were awarded by the town's council to the kids who contributed the most to their burgeoning society.

The show met with some criticism in the media for exploiting young children for the sake of entertainment.
