    Khalil Thabit Greene was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on October 21, 1979. He would attend high school at Key West High School in Florida. He would later move on to attend Clemson University, where he would earn an All-ACC second team seleciton in his Sophomore season, and in his senior season he would be named the National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball as well as the ACC Player of the Year. He would also pick up the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy and the Rotary Smith Award before graduating college and pursing a career in Major League Baseball.

    Greene was drafted with the 13th pick in the 2002 Major League Baseball draft, and he would make his major league debut on Septmer 3, 2003. In 2004, he would be named the Padres starting Shortstop. He would finish second in the voting for Rookie of the Year in the National League. In 2005 and 2006, He would help lead the team to division championships. As of 2008, Greene is the franchise leader in homeruns for a shortstop. He would sign a two year contract for 11 million dollars with the San Diego Padres on February 4, 2008.
