    On March 30, 2009, news agencies reported that Kevin Gregg was named the Chicago Cubs closer. Gregg beat out Carlos Marmol this spring.   • MLB Career

    Gregg was originally drafted in the 1996 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics and placed in the minor leagues. After six years with Athletics' affiliates, Gregg was granted free agency in October 2002. One month later Gregg signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Angels. The following season, he made his MLB debut with the Angels on August 9, 2003. Over the next three seasons, Gregg averaged 30-50 games each year with the Angels, including two trips to the American League Divisional Series in 2004 and 2005.

    On November 20, 2006, Gregg was traded to the Florida Marlins. Having made an impression on the Marlins during spring training, Gregg was used a a reliever in 74 games during the 2007 regular season.
