  • Football Career

Prior to playing in the NFL, Collins played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He started 17 games with Penn State, winning the national championship in 1994 and earning the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien, and Sammy Baugh Awards. Following school, Collins was drafted fifth overall in the 1995 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers.

Collins joined the Panthers for his NFL debut in 1995, playing with the team for just over three years before he was waived and picked up by the New Orleans Saints in 1998. He completed the season in New Orleans, then signed with the New York Giants in early 1999. Collins played with the Giants for five seasons, which were some of the statistically best of his career, including in 2002, when he passed for 4,073 yards. Starting in 2004, he played two seasons with the Oakland Raiders, then signed with the Tennessee Titans as a free agent in 2006.

With Brett Favre and Philip Rivers unable to play in the Pro Bowl on February 8, 2009, Collins was named to the AFC roster. Collins was a No. 2 alternate while Rivers was a No. 1 and Favre was one of the top three quarterbacks selected.ESPN.com: Favre, Rivers sidelined by injuries (January 21, 2009)
