Kent State University

Kent State University is a public four year institution of higher learning. It is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Cleveland and 12 miles east of Akron. Kent State university is comprised of 8 campuses. The main campus is located in Kent, Ohio.

On May 4, 1970, four students were killed and nine students wounded when they were fired upon by the Ohio National Guard, who were trying to break up a protest by students, who were assembled to protest the American invasion of Cambodia. The students killed were Allison Krause, William Knox Schroeder, Sandra Lee Scheuer and Jeffrey Glen Miller. The guardsmen claimed to have fired in self defense.
