  • Kenny Rogers Roasters is a restaurant chain founded in 1991 by country music singer Kenny Rogers and former Kentucky governor and corporate restauranteur John Y. Brown Jr. As of 2008, the company operates locations almost entirely outside of the US.
  • History

While Kenny Rogers Roasters was Rogers' first foray into the field, it was not Brown's -he had previously owned Kentucky Fried Chicken, having purchased it directly from the original Colonel Harland Sanders in 1964. By 1995, the chain had proliferated to over 350 locations in the US, gaining enough recognition to be the subject of a 1996 episode of Seinfeld. But within four years, the company had gone bankrupt, and was purchased by Nathan's Famous, Inc (of Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs). While only one location remains in the US -in Ontario, California -the chain remains in widespread operation in Asia.
