DNA Leads to Arrest
In 1982, a young woman named Karen Range was murdered in her home; according to reports she was nearly decapitated. A door-to-door salesman named David Steffen was later convicted of the aggravated rape and murder of Range. However, Steffen claimed he stabbed Range but never raped her. In 2007, a DNA test proved that Steffen did not rape her.
Douglas was convicted of a drug trafficking offense in 2008. At that time, he was ordered to provide a sample of his DNA. Douglas' DNA matched the DNA found in Range's body.Dayton Daily News: Sex with the Dead Could Cost You Five Years (February 25, 2009)WCPO.com: Convicted Corpse Abuser To Spend 3 Years In Jail (February 26, 2008)
