Early Career
Kenneth Cole grew up with his family in Brooklyn, New York, owning the El Greco shoe manufacturing company. In 1982, Kenneth Cole opened his own company, Kenneth Cole Incorporated, and went to Market Week at New York's Hilton Hotel. He was unable to get a spot at the hotel, and was forced to change his company name to Kenneth Cole Productions in order to reserve a spot down the road for his trailer. During the two and a half days of the show, Kenneth Cole Productions sold 40,000 pairs of shoes. -
