The Kennedy Clan is generally represented by the nine children of Rose Fitzgerald (1890-1995) and Joseph Patrick Kennedy (1888-1969), the family includes a President, Senators, a U.S. Attorney General, and philanthropists. In truth, they represent "Generation Three" of this wealthy and politically-inclined family.
Paul Kirk was sworn into the Senate seat vacated by the recent death of Ted Kennedy on September 25, 2010, as many of the Kennedy family looked on. Ted Kennedy held the seat for 5 decades until his death on August 25th, 2010. [1]
Their mother, Rose, was the eldest daughter of John Francis Fitzgerald (1863-1850), a son of Irish immigrants who succeeded in politics. Fitzgerald and his political contemporary, Patrick J. Kennedy, can be considered “Generation one” of the Kennedy clan. Rose Fitzgerald married Joseph Kennedy, the eldest son of Patrick to become Generation two.
Joseph & Rose Kennedy
Joseph Kennedy was the first Irish Catholic to be appointed Ambassador to Britain, a post to which he was named in 1938 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Rose and Joseph’s nine children are "Generation three" of the political Kennedy clan.
