December 6, 2008 marked the 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors. Morgan Freeman, George Jones, Barbra Streisand, Twyla Tharp, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who were among the 2008 recipients of the lifetime achievement awards. The night after the awards are given, honorees attend a celebration called the Honors Gala.
