Major League Baseball starting pitcher Kelvim Escobar currently plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Escobar originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays on July 9, 1992. In 1994 he joined the Blue Jays' minor league affiliates for his first few years of conditioning.
On June 29, 1997, Escobar was called up to make his MLB debut with the Blue Jays. He played a total of 27 games with the Blue Jays that season, pitching 31 innings and finishing the season with a 2.90 ERA. He continued to split his next several seasons between the Blue Jays and the minors, pitching in a career high 76 games during the 2002 season.
Following the 2003 season, Escobar was granted free agency and signed with the then named Anaheim Angels on November 24, 2003. He made his first post season appearance in 2004, where the Angels lost the American League Divisional Series to the Boston Red Sox.
Escobar continued with the Angels in 2005, when they officially became the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, playing in the American League Championship Series, losing to the Chicago White Sox.
In late March 2008, Escobar revealed that he had a right shoulder tear, and is considering surgery as an option. As the injury could be career ending, Escobar is also rumored to be considering retirement.
