Kelly Willis is a country singer-songwriter known for her throaty vocals and introspective lyrics.
Career
Upon being signed to MCA Records in 1989, Kelly Willis released Well Travelled Love, and was featured in the 1991 film Thelma and Louise.
By the time she released her third MCA album, tensions gradually rose between the company and Willis, since her music did not get much airplay despite being critically praised. She left the label in 1994.
Willis's subsequent releases on Ryodisc continued to be favored by audiences and critics, and her 2007 release, Translated From Love, was hailed by All Music Guide as a "solid, consistently crafted 'new country' record."
Willis announced in 2008 that she would take a hiatus from touring to tend to family.
