Keith Moon

The Who's Keith Moon was known for having the wackiest and most unpredictable personality in rock throughout the later Sixties and until his death in 1978, but his groundbreaking drumming is what will be remembered most. At a time in music history when the steady backbeat was cherished, Moon deviated from the norm with a bombastic, frenzied style that essentially classified the drums as a lead instrument.

B.Z. (Before Zeppelin)

At one point there was talk of assembling a Sixties supergroup that would have included Moon, his Who bandmate John Entwistle and Jimmy Page. Moon famously commented that the band would "go down like a lead zeppelin," and indeed, the project never materialized—but Moon did manage to name one of the biggest rock bands of all time.
