United States Army Private First Class Keith Matthew Maupin, known as Matt Maupin to family and friends, was captured by Iraqi insurgents on April 9, 2004. On June 28, 2004, a poor quality video purportedly showing Maupin's execution was aired by Al Jazeera.

Maupins Remains
Maupin's remains were found on March 30, 2008, and returned to the United States on April 27, 2008. On Sunday, April 27, 2008, Maupin was remembered at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hundreds of people turned out to celebrate Maupin's life. In a 12-mile procession Maupin was taken past Glen Este High School, where he once played football, and then to Union Township Civic Center, near Cincinnati, for a memorial service.
