  • NHL Career

    Carney was drafted 76th overall in the 1988 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He chose to attend and play for the University of Maine for three seasons before joining the Sabres for his NHL debut in 1991. He split his first two professional seasons between the Sabres and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans. On October 26, 1993, Carney was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he played for just over four seasons. His next trade sent him to the Phoenix Coyotes on March 4, 1998. Carney finished the 1997-98 season in Phoenix and played in every one of their regular season games over the next three years. On June 19, 2001, he was traded to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, accompanying them to the Stanley Cup Finals against the New Jersey Devils in 2003. Carney stayed with the Ducks until March 9, 2006, when he was traded again, this time to the Vancouver Canucks. He played the remaining 18 regular season games with the Canucks before signing as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild on July 1, 2006.
