• Kazaa is a peer-to-peer (P2P) download program that was extremely popular in the early 2000s. The company has received quite a bit of negative publicity as a result of the spyware and adware apparently bundled with their software. Additionally the service has come under fire for hosting pirated and material that infringes upon copy write such as movies and music.

  • Current Status:

    After losing a lawsuit with the recording industry Kazaa was forced to remove any and all copy write protected material from their service. Like Napster the service shifted towards a pay model where users can purchase songs and movies from approved vendors. Traffic that once included millions of active users has dropped dramatically across the service. Some users however continue to use the client through unauthorized networks for unrestricted access to content.
