North Carolina author Kaye Gibbons has written seven books since her first novel, Ellen Foster, was released in 1987 to wide critical acclaim. In November 2008, Gibbons was arrested on prescription drug fraud charges. On November 2, 2008, Gibbons was arrested on drug charges. She had reportedly attempted to obtain prescription drugs fraudulently. Gibbons was arrested on similar charges in August 2008. Gibbons will appear in court in December regarding the August charges. The drug charges included obtaining drugs by fraud, illegal possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance, obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresenting herself as a physician and obtaining property by false pretense.
