Career
After graduating with a degree in English and History from the University of Virginia, she began her career in television journalism in the early 1980s as an assistant and editor at ABC News and then at CNN.
She was a Pentagon correspondent for NBC News in 1989 and in 1990 she became a national correspondent for Today.
She joined the shows featured cast in 1991 and remained there until 2006, when she left to host the CBS Evening News.
