Actress Kathy Bates has won an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards and was nominated for a Tony Award. She became a household name after playing the role of Annie Wilkes in the the Stephen King film Misery for which she won her Academy Award.
Career Highlights
Bates began her acting career with small roles in several television shows like The Love Boat, St. Elsewhere and All My Children. Her first mainstream film role came in 1978 in the film Straight Time. Bates had another smaller role in the 1990 film Dick Tracy before starring as the obsessed fan in Misery opposite James Caan. That role besides earning Bates her first Academy Award, also landed her a Golden Globe Award. In 1991 Bates appeared in Fried Green Tomatoes opposite Jessica Tandy. She went on to appear in the television series The Late Shift and the films Titanic, Primary Colors and The Waterboy. More recently Bates had a recurring role on the HBO series Six Feet Under and has done voice acting work for King of the Hill, Charlotte's Web and Bee Movie.
