On a March 31, 2008 episode of The Today Show, Matt Lauer announced that on April 7, 2008, Kathie Lee Gifford would be joining Today as a fourth hour correspondent with Hoda Kotb. Having her join the show enables Natalie Morales and Ann Curry to spend more time with the rest of the cast throughout the other three hours of the show.
When asked why she was joined Today, Gifford it was because of fellow Today Show fourth hour anchor, Hoda Kotb. The Today Show website reports that Kotb approached Gifford late last year to join her for a segment on the show.
Gifford previously worked with Regis Philbin on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.
