American actress Katherine Heigl plays the role as Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on the hit television show Grey's Anatomy for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2007.
E! News reported in March 2009 that Heigl's Grey's Anatomy character, Izzie Stevens, will be diagnosed with a form of brain cancer in an upcoming episode. Actor Justin Chambers, who plays Heigl's on-screen boyfriend Alex Karev, told TV Guide Canada that Izzie's cancer storyline would serve as an explanation for the reappearance of her late boyfriend Denny Duquette.E Online: Izzie Has Cancer for Sure (March 6, 2009)
Leaving Grey's
In February 2009, co-star James Pickens, Jr. stated that Heigl would be leaving the season along with castmate T.R. Knight at the end of the 2009 season.New York Post: Izzie Leaving Grey's Anatomy (February 10, 2009) However, during her July appearance on Regis and Kelly, she stated that she will be staying for another three years.
Isobel Stevens
Heigl plays Dr. Izziel Stevens on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. Isobel aka Izzie grew up in a trailer park in Chehalis, Washington. She gave birth to a daughter before she left high school. After school she attended the University of Washington and subsidized her education by modeling. Stevens is currently a resident at Seattle Grace Hospital and lives with Meredith Grey.
Career
Heigl is one of the few actresses who made the transition from small screen to the big screen. During a hiatus from Grey's Heigl appeared in the Judd Apatow comedy Knocked Up for which she gained critical acclaim and the film was a box office success. Heigl's next project was the romantic comedy 27 Dresses, and she is slated to appear in the upcoming film The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler.
