• American actress Katherine Heigl plays the role as Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on the hit television show Grey's Anatomy for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2007.

  E! News reported in March 2009 that Heigl's Grey's Anatomy character, Izzie Stevens, will be diagnosed with a form of brain cancer in an upcoming episode.   Heigl plays Dr. Izziel Stevens on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. Isobel aka Izzie grew up in a trailer park in Chehalis, Washington. She gave birth to a daughter before she left high school. After school she attended the University of Washington and subsidized her education by modeling. Stevens is currently a resident at Seattle Grace Hospital and lives with Meredith Grey.

• Career

  Heigl is one of the few actresses who made the transition from small screen to the big screen. During a hiatus from Grey's Heigl appeared in the Judd Apatow comedy Knocked Up for which she gained critical acclaim and the film was a box office success. Heigl's next project was the romantic comedy 27 Dresses, and she is slated to appear in the upcoming film The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler.
