Karl Rove

Karl Rove served as a Senior Advisor and White House Deputy Chief of Staff under President George W. Bush from 2001 through August 2007. Rove currently works as a pundit and political analyst for publications, including Newsweek, and Fox News Channel.

On January 26, 2008, Representative John Conyers, the House Judiciary Committee chairman, subpoenaed Rove to testify before the committee in the matter of of several U.S. attorneys fired by the Bush administration and the prosecution of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman.FOX News: House Judiciary Chairman Subpoenas Karl Rove (January 26, 2009) Though Bush administration lawyers have informed him that he is no longer protected by executive privilege, Rove continually refused to appear before the committee. Contempt of Congress

Controversy

Rove was one of the President's most trusted advisors from 2001 to 2007, and was a frequent attendee at meetings concerning Iraq War planning. Rove has been named in nearly every scandal during Bush's tenure, including the Valerie Plame affair, the U.S. Attorney firings, the Jack Abramoff scandal, and most recently, the conviction and incarceration of former Democratic Governor of Alabama, Don Siegelmann. In late May, 2008, former White House Press Spokesman Scott McClellan blamed Rove for organizing a photo-op flyover of the Hurricane Katrina destruction.
