Basketball Career
Prior to playing in the WNBA, Lawson played basketball in college for the University of Tennessee. In 2003, she was selected for the Francis Pomeroy Naismith Award, as the top player under 5'8", and for the Woody Hayes National Scholar Athlete Award, for her commitment to academics, athletics and community service.WNBA.com: Kara Lawson
Lawson was drafted fifth overall in the 2003 WNBA draft by the Detroit Shock. She was traded to the Sacramento Monarchs five days later. She helped the Monarchs reach the WNBA Western Conference Finals in 2003 and 2004 and win the WNBA Championship in 2005.WNBA.com: Kara Lawson
