The Kansas City Chiefs are a NFL team that plays in the West Division of the American Football Conference. The team was originally founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, as part of the AFL. In just their third season they defeated the Houston Oilers to win the AFL Championship in 1962. After sharing Dallas with the Oilers for a their first few years, the owners were persuaded to move the team. The team was moved to Kansas City and were renamed the Chiefs. In 1966, the Chiefs returned to the playoffs and made it to the first Super Bowl, which at that time was a game between the NFL champion and the AFL champion. New General Manager and Head Coach For 2009 Season
Carl Peterson resigned as Chiefs general manager at the end of the 2008 season, in which the team won only 2 games and lost 14. On January 13, 2009 Clark Hunt named Scott Pioli the fifth General Manager in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs Win Super Bowl IV
On January 11, 1970 the Kansas City Chiefs of the AFL played the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL in Super Bowl IV. The game was held at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Chiefs won the game 23 to 7. It was their second Super Bowl appearance and their first and only Super Bowl victory through the 2009 season.
Joe Montana Leads The Chiefs
Near the end of Joe Montana's Hall of Fame career, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs. He lead them to two playoff victories in the 1993 season. It was the Chiefs most successful season since their second Super Bowl appearance in 1969.
