Kane and Lynch 2 Dog Days Walkthrough

This page contains a complete text and video guide to Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, developed by Io Interactive and published by Square Enix and Eidos Interactive. The game was released on August 17, 2010, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Continuing the blood-soaked saga of the titular pair of troublemakers, Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days plunges players back into the gritty world of violence and crime introduced in the first game. Reintroducing two of the most twisted protagonists in recent memory, the sequel is a whirlwind of cooperative mayhem. Bullets will fly and bodies will fall when the two career criminals reunite in an effort to save their collective necks from a contract placed on them by elements of the Shanghai underworld. Never the most comfortable team, Kane and Lynch will have to once again put aside their differences and find a way to keep from killing each other, so they can kill everyone else. Self-preservation and the simple sadistic joy of destruction are the motivating factors at play as the two make their grisly way through Shanghai, taking out the rival criminals and corrupt police in their path. Throughout their two-day odyssey of violence, their only hope for survival--and perhaps the greatest threat to their lives--is each other.

Story

Following the events of the first game, Kane and Lynch decided to go their separate ways. It was either that, or continue the constant Mexican standoff of the minds that characterized their partnership. Just when both seem comfortable with their new lots in life, fate--in the form of a busted arms deal, and the resulting bounty on both of their heads--thrusts them back together. Forced to wage another two-man war with the whole world, Kane and Lynch must make their way to the head of the conspiracy against them in the only way they know how: with extreme violence and ruthless destruction.

Gameplay

The game is a frantic third-person shooter with elements of strategy and problem solving. Multiple solutions are usually possible to any given situation, although some amount of gunplay will almost always be necessary. Kane and Lynch are at their best when two players combine to control them, allowing cooperation amidst the destruction.

Series

Dog Days is the sequel to the popular action game Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, released in November 2007. Continuing the story of the two title protagonists, Dog Days raises the already high bar of violence and action set by the first game, and expands on the complex and potentially dangerous interpersonal dynamics of Kane and Lynch.

Chapter 1: Welcome to Shanghai

This short tutorial mission will introduce you to the basic controls, which should be pretty familiar if you've played a third-person shooter recently. Also, you'll catch up with Kane and Lynch, or, if you've never played the first game, get to know them for the first time.

As is only fitting, their reunion quickly descends into chaos and violence, and you'll have to get up to speed amongst a hail of bullets. After kicking in the door of the low-level criminal, and finding him less than totally cooperative, you'll have to chase him through the streets and back alleys of Shanghai, fighting your way through progressively bigger and more dangerous waves of enemy goons. Luckily, your target will stop and wait for you if he starts to get to far ahead, so don't worry about running out of time. Remember, you can use Right on the Directional Pad to locate him if you lose track of where he is. Follow the guy (and his naked girlfriend) through the apartments and out onto the street. Shoot down any gunmen that get in your way. Get used to the controls as you go, switching weapons when something better comes along. You'll have some options along the way, with the opportunity to switch from pistols to machine guns to shotguns, if you want.

When you get to the counter with the gas cans, chuck one out at the enemies who're holed up in the kiosk ahead. Make sure you throw it far; you can take damage from explosions too. Shortly ahead, gun down the largest group of enemies in the level, then confront your cornered quarry, and watch the grisly cutscene that ends the mission.

Chapter 2: The Details

After the crash that begins this mission, take out the thugs swarming around the highway ahead. You need to protect the limo, and that means dropping these enemies as quickly as possible. The limo has its own health bar; if it starts sinking into the red, you'd better clear out any enemies around it in a hurry. Keep pressing forward, using cover and grabbing ammo and better guns when you can, until your reach the exit ramp. Follow the limo down, only stopping to take out the two motorcyclists that try to stop you. At the bottom of the ramp, get ready for another crash. Afterward, go to the limo's shattered windshield, and haul your ally out before he dies.

Once he's out on the street, you'll have to protect your man from the swarming enemies, which now include Shanghai's finest. The guy you need to protect is about as smart as the average AI, so don't expect a whole lot of enlightened self-interest out of him. Compensate for his stupidity by gunning down every target that comes anywhere near him. Be ready for them to come from any direction, and take them out before they get close enough to do damage. About here is where some pretty good guns start dropping, including some useful assault rifles. Follow your group down another ramp, and into a parking garage. Make your way through the garage. There are no enemies on the first level, but once you ascend the ramp to the second, more cops will start showing up. Fight forward, toward the emergency exit on the far side of the garage. You can use the fire extinguishers that hang on the pillars like gas cans: throw them near enemies, then shoot them to blow them up. They're surprisingly effective.

Once out of the garage, continue fighting your way forward, through the ruins and back out onto the street, where you'll face another squad of cops, these ones particularly aggressive. When the getaway van arrives, get your group safely to it; it's not far ahead. Escape your attackers in the getaway van to end the mission.

Chapter 3: Blood, Sweat and Tears

The third mission opens in a sweatshop. Move through the rooms, and be ready for a fight. As soon as you open the first closed door, the enemies will start appearing. Gun them down, and move forward through the sweatshop. After a short lull in the fighting, engage more enemies ahead. Use the ample cover throughout the level to keep yourself safe. Take a human shield when you can. When you reach the hallway, look out for enemies firing on you from the windows of the rooms on the right. You can flush them out by kicking in the doors. If you have a shotgun, it'll come in handy in these close-quarters fights. After a brief cutscene, you'll meet up with some allies. Almost immediately, you'll be in the middle of another ferocious firefight. Take out the enemies in the courtyard. When they're all dead, move forward, through the metal garage door. Ahead, after your buddies break open another door, battle your way down the narrow room ahead. Watch out for enemies across the way, firing in through the windows on the left. Clear out the room, then move forward. Make your way through the cramped rooms, all the way around to the far side of the building, and continue on. Kick in the blue door on the left, and head downstairs, to another sliding door. Move across the large empty room, and find your target in the office beyond. After briefly interrogating him, fight another large group of enemies. Move upstairs, where you can fire down on them, and on the getaway van. Make sure to destroy the van before the enemies make their escape. When the cops arrive, battle them. Move forward, taking out everything in your way. The cops here can be tough if you try to fight them from a distance. As soon as you wreck the van, move forward, along the walkway on the left. Fighting the cops in the narrow office across the way will force them to come at you one at a time, reducing the risk to you. Head outside, and fight more cops. Look out for their dogs. Go down the alleyway on the left, and climb over the wall to end the mission.

Chapter 4: Laying Low

After your lunch is rudely interrupted, fight your way out of the restaurant. The Shanghai S.W.A.T. have good guns. Try to grab one as soon as you can, and re-up on ammo whenever you drop one of them. Flank the many enemies here as best you can, getting around to their sides or behind them for easier kills. Be ready for another squad, stationed in the next dining room. Get out of the restaurant through the storage room in the back.

Outside, make your way through the streets and buildings. Be ready for a squad of regular cops to attack when you near the scooter store. You can get up onto the rooftop opposite the store, and fire down on them, or fight them from their own level. When they're all dead, go through the scooter store, and keep moving forward. When you reach the street, take a right. Be ready for cops to start showing up just ahead. Fight your way forward, and duck into the video store on the left. Fight the cops in the store on the other side of the street. There's a fire extinguisher in the video store you can use. Once they're all down, head through their former sanctuary, and down the alley beyond. Climb over the wall, and keep going, up the stairs and across the construction site. Look out for more S.W.A.T. in the area on the far side of the tunnel. Fight your way forward, and take out the sniper at the far side of the area, marked by the distance marker. You can take his rifle, which will come in handy in the next area. Battle more S.W.A.T. ahead, including more snipers. Look for exploding canisters, both throwable and stationary. Watch out, though; enemies will start throwing their own exploding canisters. Try to shoot them out of the air before they reach you, or, failing that, get out of the way before they explode. Keep fighting forward until you reach the fence at the end of the construction site. Climb over to end the mission.

Chapter 5: Coming Home

Take out the enemies in the garage ahead, either by sneaking up on them or going straight in. If you're quiet, you can grab the guy taking a leak on the right and use him as a human shield. Once you're past them, head through the door ahead, then up the stairs. Move up another level at the end of the hallway, and fight more enemies. Your partner will be on the other side of the building; this is a good opportunity for some cooperative flanking tactics. Keep ascending the flights of stairs, and fighting any enemies that get in your way. Be ready for the enemies on your side to fire across at your partner, and for those across the way to fire on you. look for gas canisters you can throw. Help your partner move forward, until you meet up at the end of the hallway. Go through the door there. On the next level, fight more enemies, both on your side of the building and across the way. Go through the open door at the end of the hallway, and look for your girlfriend.

Immediately following the cutscene, battle the enemies firing through the windows on the right. Take them out, and stay away from the wall on the left side of the apartment. It's about to explode, and when it does, more enemies will come storming into the room. Take them out, then head through the hole in the wall, and through the next apartment. there are more enemies ahead, but you just need to approach them to trigger a cutscene. Afterward, when you see your girlfriend across the way, shoot down the enemies rushing across the balcony toward her. They'll come from the right first, then from the left. you need to take them out quickly in order to protect the girl. When she climbs out onto the pillar, keep gunning down the enemies. Prioritize those closest to her, since they'll try to pull her down from her perch. When the girl runs off to the left, follow the balcony into another apartment, and go through the door there.

Up ahead, drop down onto the rooftops, and move forward carefully. There are plenty of enemies on the rooftops, both on your level and above you, on the right. Further ahead, there's an even bigger group, on the rooftop just below yours. The sniper rifle is useful here, if you still have it. There's also an exploding canister you can use. When you've cleared this rooftop, drop down, and continue forward. Fight through more enemies, and reach the end of the rooftop to finish the mission.

Chapter 6: A Thousand Cuts

After waking up naked and all cut up in a dumpster, move forward down the alleyway, and back inside the building. You need to reach your partner before he's killed, so you have to be quick. Make your way through the building, bearing left through the many small rooms. After you pass through the room with bicycles lining the wall, head to the right. Follow the bloody smears on the floor into a cutscene, in which you save your partner.

After the cutscene, escape the building by going through the doorway ahead, and out through the garage door at the end. Then head up the stairs, and across the flimsy bridge. Drop down into the parking lot, and sneak carefully forward. You can grab the first guy you see, getting yourself a weapon and a modicum of protection. But the game would rather see you sneak across the lot, at least for a while. You'll have to fight if spotted, though, or try to run. Whatever you do, make your naked way to the garage door ahead, and out onto the streets. There are plenty of cops and goons for you to fight as you move down the city streets. Find good guns as soon as you can, and use cover and human shields whenever possible. Go through the passage on the right at the end of the street. Up ahead, duck into the mall on the left, and follow it to another sliding door.

After the cutscene, head back out into the mall, and fight your way forward through the squads of cops in your path. In the fast food place, you can flank the cops by cutting through the bathrooms, through the door on the right. look for a fire extinguisher here. Once you reach the end of the place, a huge group of S.W.A.T. will storm in, and more will line up outside. Use the fire extinguisher here too. Fight through the swarm of enemies, and escape by running naked down the street ahead.

Chapter 7: The Deal

After finally finding some clothes, Kane and Lynch head out to complete the deal they've been working on. Their business partner's not too happy with their recent troubles with the Shanghai underworld, though--and on the heat the situation's brought down on him--and the deal promptly goes sour. You'll have to fight your way put of the warehouse. There are tons of thugs in here, all doing their best to shoot you dead. Look for plenty of exploding canisters to throw, or shoot where they are. Make your way to the other end of the building, flanking and picking off enemies as you go. When they're all dead, go up the stairs on the right, turn right, go down some more stairs, then head outside through the sliding garage door.

Make your way through the next area, and fight the thugs that ambush you at the far end. Then head upstairs, fight through more thugs, and open the next door. Then head upstairs, and into the dry-docked ship. Watch for enemies to pop as you make your way down the hallway. After finding your former business partner, you'll have to battle more Shanghai thugs. Watch out for the sniper high above.

Take out these thugs, and keep moving. From here on out, the place will be swarming with military enemies. They have pretty good guns, so make use of them. Also, look for exploding canisters, which are scattered around the area in large numbers. There are plenty of opportunities in these large rooms for flanking, opportunities for both you and the enemy. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for enemies trying to get around on your side. If you're playing solo, your partner won't necessarily do a great job in killing enemies in his area, and they, in turn, will sometimes leave him alone, meaning a guy might sneak up and appear right beside you when you think you;re covered. You'll have to do a lot of the work yourself. Keep fighting, and make it to the door in the far left corner of the final room to escape your enemies again.

Chapter 8: Out of Shanghai

In this chapter, the battle being waged against you continues to escalate. You'll run into more military enemies shortly after going inside, and you'll be fighting them pretty much from then on. There are now machine gun emplacements to look out for, too. Take them out by lobbing canisters at them, but don't leave yourself too exposed while you do so, or they'll cut you to ribbons. Keep looking for opportunities to flank your enemies, and keep watching for them to do so to you. Fresh waves of enemies hit with amazing frequency in this battle, so never assume you're safe where you are.

When you reach the train tracks, and the helicopter flies over, cross to the building across the tracks, and go through. There are plenty more enemies waiting ahead, including a sniper up above. Flank out the enemies on the ground by moving to the left of the train, then use cover to make your way across the open area beyond. Fight more enemies as they emerge from the train ahead.

Fight your way across the train yard, which encompasses several areas. Watch for machine gunners, and appropriate their weapons when you can; they're not very accurate, but pretty damn powerful. Kill everything in your path. When you spot the moving train up ahead, clear out the enemies ahead, then run to catch the train.

Chapter 9: Air Strike

After the cutscene, fire from the moving helicopter at the enemies in the nearby building. Pay particular attention to the guys with the special weapons, marked by the distance markers. There are machine gunners in the first section of the building, then guys with RPGs in the next. Keep looking for these dangerous enemies as you circle the building; take out all the enemies, but be sure to get the special weapons guys first. Your machine gun has essentially infinite ammo, though you'll have to reload when you reach the end of your clip.

When the enemy helicopter comes into view, lean out and fire on it. This chapter's version of blind firing works pretty well here. Quickly duck back into cover when you start to get hit. Take your time with the copter; it'll take some damage before it goes down. When it's gone, return to firing into the building. remember to take out the most dangerous enemies first. Another helicopter will soon appear, attempting to stop you from landing. Destroy it like the first, allowing your to land, and finish this short chapter.

Chapter 10: Resurrection

After hopping off the downed helicopter, move across the rooftop. You can sneak for a while, but probably not all the way, as there are a lot of enemies here. Grab a gun or two as soon as you can, and fight it out with them. Watch out for the sniper high up on the left; you should be able to take him out with the good, accurate rifles the cops carry. Make it to the end of the rooftop, and lift open the door to go inside.

Once inside, head downstairs. Watch out for the guard at the bottom of the stairs. After taking him out, you'll have to fight several more groups of enemies in the factory-like rooms ahead. They're pretty well dug in, so use flanking tactics wherever possible, and be patient. Get in the elevator at the far side of the last room.

Be ready to fight lots more enemies in the offices ahead. And you'll soon have bigger problems. When the enemy helicopter flies by outside, get into cover. The copter will return shortly, and begin strafing the room. You'll need to battle it at the same time as the thugs inside the building. When seeking cover, make sure you're protected not just from one direction, but from several. Be ready to abandon your position immediately if either the copter or the thugs get a good position and begin doing damage. Keep moving through the offices. Look for machine gunners. Kill them, and get one of their guns. Use the machine gun to take down the copter, and any other enemies around. The copter's guns are capable of ripping the partitions between the cubicles to shreds, so use the pillars instead for cover. Once you've knocked down the copter, pry open the door at the end of the series of offices.

Fight another group of cops in the next office, then head out into the hallway. Run up the flights of stairs ahead, as it becomes clear that something big is going on in the building. At the top of the stairs, move through the kitchens, and find out what. When enemies begin appearing in the big, newly open-air room, make your way to the crashed helicopter, and grab the machine gun from it. then turn and head up the wrecked stairs, and along the second floor balcony. Go through the doorway on the left, up more stairs, down another hallway, and through some rooms. In the large room with the open windows, be ready for military enemies to repel in from the right, and come in through the doorway on the left. They'll try to flank you constantly here, so make sure you cover your ass. Take out the enemies on the left first, then deal with the one son the right, and make sure they don't turn the corner on you. When they're all down, go through the doorway on the left, and fight more enemies as you move down the hallway. Fight through the museum area, and open the doors at the end of it. Move down the hallway, and into the climactic cutscene.

Chapter 11: One Way Ticket

In order to escape Shanghai, you need to steal a plane and fly out. At the airport, run across the field until you're able to drop down into the trench. Make your way through the service tunnels, fighting the many enemies in your path. It's easy to get turned around in here, as the tunnels loop around and lead in all directions. You're looking for a ladder, which you can use to climb back up to the ground. After doing so, make your way over to the hangars, and start looking for a plane you can steal. There'll be plenty of enemies in your way, both military and criminal. Keep battling. In the second hangar, with the unusable plane, look for canisters you can blow up, and a machine gun, on the table near the center of the room.

The baggage area is swarming with enemies. Be careful as you move through the rooms here, especially the large one at the end. Make your way outside again. When you spot the airplane about to take off on the runway in the distance, run toward it. There are a few enemies here, and, further on, a couple of dogs, but nothing much to worry about. There're a bunch of large shipping containers blocking your path, so to reach the runway you'll have to run straight, then left, before cutting back to the right, and running across the open space to the plane. Once you arrive, you'll finish the chapter, and the game.
