The Kancamagus Highway, a National Scenic Byway located in the Northeast region of the United States, spans the White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire. The Kancamagus Highway is a 34.5 mile long east/west scenic byway traveling from Lincoln NH to Conway NH, following the Swift River and climbing to 2855ft. Named after Chief Kancamagus, grandson of Passaconaway, the Kancamagus Highway is faceted with campgrounds, scenic views and hiking trails. This scenic byway is open year round weather permitting.
On August 14th 2009 the Kancamagus Highway celebrated its 50th anniversary with a two day celebration in Lincoln NH,
a stark contrast to the simple ribbon cutting that was offered in 1959 when after years of planning and development "The Kanc" finally opened.
