  • The Juno Awards recognize achievements of Canadian musical artists for artistic and technical achievements and are presented annually.

Since 2002 the awards have been held in major cities across Canada. Prior to that, the Junos, as they are called, were traditionally held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The awards ceremony has also expanded since 2002, and is now part of Juno Weekend, a multi-day event which includes concerts, the Gala Awards Dinner, and the live telecast concert and awards night.

  • History

RPM Magazine originally polled readers starting in 1964 to name the best musicians in Canada. The magazine dubbed the results the RPM Gold Leaf Awards.

A ceremony was held each year starting in 1970, called the Gold Leaf Awards, which were then renamed the Juno Awards in 1971 and broadcast on CBC Television starting in 1975.

By 1977 the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) was formed to manage voting and the awards ceremony.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juno_Award
