The 14TH Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, which guaranteed African Americans full citizenship and all United States citizens are granted United States due process of law.
The Crash of Pan Am Flight 759
Pan Am Flight 759 was a regularly scheduled passenger flight from Miami to Las Vegas with one stop at New Orleans. On July 9, 1982, the flight, which included 7 crew members and 137 passengers, took off in Kenner, Louisiana. At the time of departure, the sky was dark with rolling thunderstorms, as well as gusty and swirling winds. The plane climbed to an altitude between 95 and 150 feet but then quickly began to descend. The airplane began to hit trees and houses on its way down before crashing into a residential area. The aircraft was destroyed during the impact, explosion, and ground fire. A total of 153 people were killed.
