Nixon Goes Down for Watergate
One of the biggest American events that took place on this day occurred in 1974. The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee came to a vote in regards to the Watergate Scandal. At a vote of 27 to 11, the committee recommended to proceed with the first article of impeachment against President Richard Nixon. The committee charged Richard Nixon with obstruction of justice after he refused to turn in tape recordings of 64 White House conversations. On August 8, 1974 Richard Nixon became the first U.S. President to resign. Vice President Gerald R.
