Louis VIII Is Crowned King of France
In 1223, Louis VIII became the King of France upon the death of his father, Philip II of France. Louis VIII reigned as King from 1223 to 1226. As King, he sought revenge on the Angevins and seized Poitou, Saintonge, then Avignon and Languedoc. On November 1, 1223 the King issued an ordinance prohibiting officials from recording debs that were owed to Jews thus reversing the policies set by his father. The prohibition was his attempt to resolve legal issues, which were a regular cause of friction between Church and State courts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_VIII_of_France
