  • Julio Lugo is the shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. He is widely regarded as an excellent defensive player. In 2007, helped anchor the Red Sox defense as the everyday shortstop for the World Series championship team.

    Julio Cesar Lugo was born in Barahona, Dominican Republic, on November 16, 1975. He would attend Fort Hamilton High School in New York State. He would later move on to Connors State Community College in Oklahoma.
  • Pro Career

    Lugo would be selected in the 43rd round of the 1994 MLB draft by the Houston Astros. He would make his major league debut on April 15, 2000, with the Astros. The team would later release him, and he would sign with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In Tampa Bay, he would establish himself as an excellent defensive shortstop and utility player. He would be traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trading deadline for Joel Guzman and Sergio Pedroza. In 2006, he would sign as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox. He would help the Red Sox to a World Series Championship in 2007.
