    After nine wins as a Light Welterweight, Chavez decided to move up in weight. In bout between Chavez and Edwin Rosario for the WBA lightweight tittle, Chavez was so angered by Rosarios insults of the Mexican people that Chavez inflicted a relentless beating and won the title with a TKO in the eleventh round.   • Retirement

    In 2005, Chavez won a match with Ivan Robinson, although a hand injury during the fight resulted in a loss against Grover Wiley, when he forced to retire to his corner. After months of waiting for his hand to heal, Chavez officially announced his retirement at the end of 2006. Chavez is now coaching his son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr..
