Academy Award-winner Julia Roberts is widely considered one of the most popular American actresses of the modern era. She rose to fame with the 1990 film Pretty Woman, followed by appearances in several critically and commercially successful films. After a period during which her films did less well, Roberts regained her popularity by starring in the romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding and starred in a succession of other romantic comedies. She won the best actress Oscar for her title role in Erin Brockovich.
