Jules Verne was a French author who is often credited as being one of the progenitors of the Science Fiction genre.
Career
The greater part of Jules Verne's works are part of his Voyages Extraordinaires -- 54 novels featuring highly capable Victorian scientist-adventurers attempting to break records or explore new lands. In all of these books, no matter how fantastic the destination or technology, Verne attempted to impart real knowledge of science to the reader. This deliberate mix of science with fiction was, at the time, almost uniquely Verne's, and has earned him the title "The Father of Science Ficiton."
