Judo is a Japanese martial art founded by Professor Jigoro Kano in the late nineteenth century. It is a combat sport and a pedagogical system, which was further used as a model for almost all modern Japanese martial arts. Internationally, it influenced local fighting styles and created direct offshoots like Sambo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Judo has been in the Olympic Games since 1964 (Men) and 1992 (Women).
