Judd Hirsch is an American Academy Award-nominated, Emmy Award winning actor most known for playing Alex Reiger on the television comedy show, Taxi. He currently co-stars with David Krumholtz and Rob Morrow on the CBS series Numb3rs. Hirsch, who was over forty at the time of his breakthrough role on Taxi, has often played fatherly characters. On Taxi, he played both counselor and straight man to more erratic characters, such as Andy Kaufman's Latka Gravas. In 1996's Independence Day, he played Jeff Goldblum's father. His role in Numb3rs is also paternal—as the father of the characters played by Krumholtz's and Rob Morrow.
