On October 21, 2010 Williams made some controversial remarks regarding Muslims on the O'Reilly Factor. Stated Williams, "...when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."
As a result of these comments, NPR announced that they were revoking their contract with Williams, as the statements were inconsistent with the journalistic ideals held by the station. Williams's strong political opinions had previously caused NPR to change his job description from correspondent to analyst.http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130712737&ps=cprs
