Journey is a musical band that has been entertaining the world since [1973]] despite the many changes to the band players. A history of the band since the beginning follows:
1973: The original band Journey formed in San Francisco with Neal Schon who played lead guitar, Gregg Rolie on keyboards and lead vocals, Prairie Prince played the drums, and George Tickner on rhythm guitars. They played a jazz-fusion style of music. Prairie Prince left the band within a year, he was replaced by Aynsley Dunbar.
1975: Journey released their first of many albums. George Tickner left the band before they started work on their second album.
1977: Sales of their albums had not improved and Columbia Records asked them to change their musical style and to add a another vocalist to share the lead vocals with Gregg Rolie. Robert Fleischman was hired, they went on tour, and wrote and performed their first hit "Wheel in the Sky". Robert Fleischman left the band due to personality differences. Steve Perry was hired to replace Robert Fleischman and soon after that, the band popularity grew.
1978: The band released their fourth album and one of the singles, "Lights", reached platinum. Aynsley Dunbar did not get along with Steve Perry, was fired and replaced by jazz drummer Steve Smith. They recorded their fifth album. The song "Evolution" from that album made it to the Hot 100 Top 20 single. "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" made it to No. 8, "Any Way You Want It" made it to top 25.
1980: Journey recorded a live album during their world tour, "Departure". They also recorded the soundtrack to the film "Dream After Dream". Gregg Rolie leaves the band due to exhaustion and is replaced by Jonathan Cain.
1981: Journey released it's eighth album, "Escape". which became their biggest selling album ever. It went nine times platinum, went to number one on the charts and included three top ten hits for "Who's Crying Now", "Don't Stop Believing", and "Open Arms". Journey recorded radio commercials for Budweiser.
1983: they recorded another album, "Frontiers" and it reached No. 2 on the album charts. Four singles from the album were in the top 20.
1982 to 1984: Steve Perry and Neal Schon pursued solo careers.
1986: The band gets back together and records the album "Raised on Radio". Ross Valory and Steve Smith were fired for musical and professional differences. Larrie Londin and Mike Baird join the group.
1987: The band breaks up each going their separate musical ways.
1995: Journey get together to do a few shows then discusses reuniting under new management.
1996: a new album is released, it includes "When You Love a Woman" which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Steve Perry injures his hip and the plans to tour are canceled.
1998: finds them looking for a new lead singer. and Steve Smith leaves the band. Drummer Deen Castronovo is hired, Steve Augeri becomes the new lead vocalist but is not well received by the fans. The band records the soundtrack for the "Armageddon" movie, called "Remember Me".
2000: Journey releases another album, "Arrival" "All the Way" became a hit.
2003: they release a four-track CD titled "Red 13".
2005: Journey is inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and started on a 30th anniversary tour. They released their twelfth album, "Generations".
2006: Steve Augeri, lead vocals, needed to be replaced due to medical issues. He was replaced with Jeff Scott Soto.
2007: Jeff Scott Soto leaves and Arnel Pineda is hired as lead vocals. Neal Schon found Arnel Pineda on YouTube and thought he would be perfect for the band.
2008: Journey debuted another album with Arnel Pineda as lead vocals. Arnel Pineda and the new album, "Revelation" continues to exceed the promoter's expectations.http://www.journeyrock.co.uk/history.php
