Josie Smith Malave was a contestant on the second season of the Bravo reality show, Top Chef. During the 2007 Labor Day weekend, Malave and two companions were physically assaulted by a group of people outside of a bar in Sea Cliff, New York.
Physical Assault
Malave, who is openly gay, was dancing with a friend at the nightclub, "Partners," when the management asked them to leave. When Malave, her friend and Malave's sister exited the club, they were met by a group of about twelve people who began to shout anti-homosexual statements at them. The group attacked Malave and her companions, beating them for what Malave estimated to be about fifteen minutes.
